Think Like a RomanExemplo
WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE ABOUT LIFE IN CHRIST?
Today we are going to look at the incredible benefits of living our life in Christ. The first thing that the life, death, and resurrection of Christ gave us is freedom from sin. Romans 6 addresses the concept of being “dead to sin, alive to Christ.” Paul tells us in Romans that we are no longer slaves to sin because sin was done away with, we are now alive to God in Christ Jesus. Notice here when reading the passages, what we are dead to and what we are alive to. We are dead to sin and its mastery over our life- that is the truth! We need to believe this, to stand on the truth of the Word, and know that sin does not have mastery over us. When we were saved, we transferred to a different master and now we are alive to Christ. Alive to Christ means that we are alive to all that Christ gave us on the cross- freedom from sin, addictions, depression, anxiety- he wants us to live free and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
How do we live empowered by the Holy Spirit? Romans 8 focuses on what the Spirit has done for us and within us as believers. Paul begins, for those who are in Christ Jesus... This is for all who believe. The Spirit dwells in the believer, and then this same Spirit will give newness of life- a transforming work takes place from the inside of us, by the indwelling of The Spirit, we are being sanctified. And furthermore, to our mortal body in the future- just as he raised Christ from the dead, the believer will be resurrected in the future; glorified. So, what does a life in the Spirit look like?
- Walk according to the Spirit (8:2-4).
- Set your mind on the things of the Spirit (8:5-8).
- Put to death the deeds of the body by the Spirit (8:13).
- Be led by the Spirit (8:14).
- Know the Fatherhood of God by the Spirit (8:15-17).
- Hope in the Spirit (8:23-25).
- Pray in the Spirit (8:26-27).
How great is that! We walk empowered by the Holy Spirit to live out the purposes that God has for us.
Prayer Point: Thank you Jesus for the benefits that salvation gives me, thank you that I can now walk according to the Spirit and not the flesh, I can set my mind on things of the Spirit and be led by the Spirit. Thank you that I will walk in the power of the Spirit all the days of my life and live out the incredible gift of salvation while I am here on earth.
We encourage you to keep reading the book of Romans in its entirety and soak in the words you are reading, renew your mind – that you can be sure of your salvation, of your life in Christ and to live a life of purpose, on purpose.
