The Greatest Helper, the Holy Spirit Guides, Strengthens and Comforts BelieversExemplo
The Holy Spirit gives strength to live for God.
“I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith.” (Philippians 1:23-25, NIV)
Paul had already endured much. He had been imprisoned several times for proclaiming the Gospel, had been mocked, stoned, and flogged. His missionary journeys were dangerous and exhausting. Caring for several young churches weighed heavily on him. All in all, it was clear to Paul: it would be better for him to die and be with Christ. He was really looking forward to that! But at the same time, he knew that the Lord still had an important task for him here on earth. He had to share the Gospel with people who had never heard it before and should support and guide young Christians. Moreover, there was a trial coming up where Paul had to testify to his faith. His task was not over yet.
How did Paul receive the strength to go on with his life and even find joy in it? How could he continue to live to God’s glory? “Through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,” he writes (Philippians 1:19).
How we often long for a future with Jesus, without worry or pain! And that is understandable, but we may also pray for the power of His Spirit until that time comes.
What do you find tough in your life? Do you bring that to God in prayer?
