Our Daily Bread: Beyond Camp Family Edition

God is Active

Sara excitedly began the one-hundred-mile drive to a children’s camp to share her story about how God has worked in her life. She’d never talked about Jesus to a group before, so a friend came along to support her. In the middle of the trip, Sara got a call from another friend who needed immediate help.

What should she do? Turn around? Keep her commitment?

Sara asked God for His direction and talked it over with her friend. They concluded that another friend could meet her friend’s need and that the phone call might have been a distraction from Sara’s opportunity to talk to the children about Jesus.

Just then, a semi-truck passed by with one word plastered in huge letters on its side: JESUS. As they drove on, they marveled at what they sensed was the unmistakable evidence of God’s care and presence.

God is active in our lives and longs to draw near, interact with, and lead us throughout the day. “He leads the humble in doing right,” David said in Psalm 25.

We don’t know the circumstances under which David wrote this psalm, except that he was obviously in some trouble. He needed guidance and knew to seek it from God. Because he’d received salvation from Him, David waited on Him for direction.

The campers were so encouraged by Sara’s story that day. Think of the blessing both the campers and Sara would have missed out on had she turned around that day. Like the psalmist, we can put our hope in God all day long—He will lead us.

When camp is over, how can you intentionally follow God’s leading? Where do you need His guidance?

I’m grateful that You long to draw near to me, heavenly Father. Thank You for the amazing opportunity camp has given me to grow. Help me to follow Your leading.
