The Selfless Self: Give God Your “____Ever”Exemplo
Is Ambition Good?
The word “ambition,” mentioned only three times in the New Testament, is striking. Ambition, defined as a cherished desire or a lofty goal, serves as a compass pointing towards your true calling — sharing and shining with Jesus. This isn’t about being the star quarterback, the lead in the play, or the valedictorian. While those platforms might provide opportunities to voice your passion, your actual ambition centers around something eternal: Jesus Christ.
Paul emphasized that his ambition wasn’t the pursuit of social accolades like climbing the ladder of success or amassing wealth. His ambition was to radiate and share the love of Jesus Christ. Using whatever platform he had, he sought to bring Jesus into the hearts of others. This holds a powerful lesson for us all, from students to adults.
Remember, life moves at an astonishing pace. As the years pile up, we often find ourselves gazing into the rearview mirror of life, pondering past decisions, missed opportunities, and paths not taken. “Why didn’t I do that then? Why didn’t I invest in that opportunity?” The precious moments pass by so swiftly, a fact that becomes increasingly apparent as time goes on.
If you are young, your generation has an unparalleled opportunity. With the world seeming topsy-turvy, your peers are in search of hope, truth, and a source of love. Don’t let years slip by only to regret not sharing Jesus with them. The opportunity to positively influence the world around you is within your grasp. Don’t wait for another day.
If you are a parent, as you grow older and your children age, you find yourself wondering where the years went. Opportunities are fleeting, much like time with our loved ones. But Paul gives us hope. He aimed to share Christ, to shine his light brightly for all to see.
This gospel-centered mission can serve as a beacon for our life decisions. Whatever your calling, you can incorporate this central idea into your actions. Ambition, when centered around the eternal love of Jesus Christ and making Him known, transforms us. We turn from a self-centered pursuit into a guiding light, illuminating the path ahead. Our true ambition is to be the hands, feet, and voice of Jesus Christ in the world that so desperately needs Him. Is this your ambition? If not, pray now that God will make it your ambition.
