Who Is God? A Study for TeensExemplo
GOD THE FATHER
READ: 1 John 4:9-10, Ephesians 1:3, 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, and 1 Corinthians 8:6
If I were to ask you to tell me about who Jesus is, you may say something like: “He was God’s son, and He died and rose from the dead to forgive us from our sin.” If I were to ask you who the Holy Spirit is, you might say something like: “He was sent to guide us and to help us bring people to Jesus.” However, if I asked you to tell me who God the Father is, would you be so quick to have an answer? If not, it’s okay! The person of God the Father is not usually talked about very much in a church service or youth group. We all know He’s the heavenly father of Jesus and one of the three persons of the trinity, but that may be as far as our knowledge goes. So, who is God the Father? Well, if we tried to dissect every aspect and characteristic of God the Father, we’d be here all day. Instead, I’m going to give you just a few of His important characteristics.
HE IS GOD
God the Father is the first person of rank within the trinity. This doesn't mean He’s more God than the Son and Holy Spirit, nor does it mean He’s greater than the other two. It just means He’s first in position, as all three persons of the trinity are equal.
HE IS YOUR CREATOR
Yes, He’s Jesus’ father, but He’s also our father, as He’s the one who created us! He made us so uniquely and wonderfully—even if we don’t believe it. He knew He was going to create us before He created the grass on the ground or the water in the sea. We are His masterpiece.
HE IS JUST
God the Father is a righteous judge who cannot associate with sin. We’ll all be judged according to whether or not we’ve sinned against God. Unfortunately, we’ve all sinned against God and are going to be judged for it when we die. However, God the father also FORGIVES sin. The blood of Jesus has paved the way for us to be redeemed and for the Father to forgive us of those sins that once separated us from Him.
HE IS PERSONAL
God the Father loves us more than we can ever imagine. His love for us and the world is the reason He sent Jesus to die for us. Not only that, but God the Father blesses us, He makes promises to us, and even comforts us in times of trouble. Are you starting to see just how amazing the Father is?
Lastly, God the Father is all-powerful, all-knowing, and always present, and yet He knows and loves us and wants to have a deep and intimate relationship with us. This is just the tip of the iceberg of the person of God the Father!
