Serving Challenge: An 11-Day Life-Changing Journey to Serve Like JesusExemplo
Serving Like Jesus: Jesus's Ambition
If someone were to look at your life up to this point, what would they say you honored and esteemed in your life? Another way to look at it is who is being honored in your life. Is it you, or is it God?
Even in my pursuit to follow God, I have to do an interior check of my attitude and an exterior examination of my circumstances. If all of your serving efforts enable you to have greater success, a bigger platform, and gain influence with people, is that the right kind of serving?
After receiving God's grace, we ought to desire to achieve something, work hard, and be determined to pursue a cause. You and I should never be the same because of what Jesus did for us. The Christ Hymn takes a sharp turn and gives us a picture of the very end:
"Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
One day, Jesus Christ will be exalted, and everyone will praise and worship Him alone.
When we serve, we embody Jesus; we allow people to glorify Him. While we are saved by grace alone through faith, it is through our serving that others can come to experience the grace of Jesus.
Jesus so clearly states this in Matthew 5:16, when He says: "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."
While the cumulative effect of Jesus's serving resulted in an ultimate win, Jesus endured loss after loss on the path to that final victory. He kept going lower and lower for you and me. If you continue to climb higher and higher up the ladder through your serving, is it truly the right kind? Could selfish ambition be taking the stage over godly purpose?
Step into the life that Jesus has called you to live. Serve Him by serving others!
Challenge:
Intentionally do something that costs you and will cause you to lose—but will help someone else win.
