Moms Need Help Too

Mornings are busy for mothers with active households. Maybe your kids, like mine, seem to sense when you first open your eyes in the morning. You might be trying to read for a few minutes or get a moment to pray alone while your kids tiptoe into the kitchen to pour themselves a bowl of cereal or butter some toast. As a result, you might find crushed cereal on the kitchen floor, a broken dishwasher door, or milk spilled by a toddler chef in charge. And then you might wonder whether you should address the disobedience of climbing onto the dishwasher door to reach the bowl or applaud the independence and self-service of the four-year-old brother helping his younger sister! Mothers need new wisdom for each new day, don’t we?

Even if it’s the help of a toddler-turned-chef, sometimes we just need help. It’s okay to ask God for help. Even kings do. “Because of me, kings reign, and rulers make just decrees. Rulers lead with my help, and nobles make righteous judgments” (Proverbs 8:15-16).

This is the best part. The Creator of your children is waiting for you to ask Him for wisdom. He knows you need it, and it says in James 1:5 that He will give it in abundance.

Ask Him for help in all things: the sleep schedules for preschool twins, coupons for diapers, a babysitter for date nights, grace when you are weary, a chance to nap for twenty minutes, effective treatment for a chronic ear infection, a doctor who thinks outside the box, a husband to bring home pizza tonight, a best friend for your twelve-year-old, confidence for your five-year-old, a new home and a friend next door, grandparents full of vitality and a desire to be involved, godly spouses for your children, patience for your nineteen-year-old, and so much more. Yes, my list was all over the place. That’s the point!

You need help with many things as a mom, and God is right there waiting to give it. Start your list today. Pray and watch to see where He will work!

MomStrong: Encouragement for Everyday Moms by Heidi St. John

Have you noticed the many challenges facing kids and teens today? It seems that everywhere we turn, our kids are in the crosshairs of a culture at war with the living God. This devotional is part of a book that was written with you, the mom that God has called be both intercessor and counselor, in mind. It is my prayer that you find His heart as you read it.
