Align with Above

How do you tune in with "Above", when the Word of the Lord is scarce? It was scarce in the time of Samuel, as you have read, but it was scarce in the time between the Old Testament and the New Testament too.

Then Jesus came.

The Living Word of God came to earth as a human being. Not only for adults but also for the children.

We read in Luke 18 how Jesus welcomed children and we see this depicted in the 3rd episode of The Chosen. Nice to see that approaching Jesus is a little exciting at first. But it gets easier and easier. Abby trusts Jesus and she and her little friend Joshua get closer and closer. At first, they hide behind a wall for a while. Until Jesus calls them. Jesus calls it wise that she brought Joshua with her. In the end, she takes all her friends with her.

Two lessons for us to take from this:

1) Sometimes it seems as though there is a wall between God and us or no room for that attunement with Above. But in the meantime, Jesus is praying for us, sitting at the Right Hand of the Father. He is pleading for you and for me. That wall doesn't have to be there. You may come from behind it to become attuned (again) to Jesus. He has your best interests at heart and wants to be in connection with you to give you direction.

2) Sometimes you can’t do that on your own and you’ll need each other, just like Abby and Joshua. Abby helps Joshua draw closer to Jesus. She challenges him: He can be trusted, we can meet Him! Who helps you to be attuned with "Above"? Who helps you get closer to Jesus?

So it is with Samuel. Thanks to Eli's help Samuel comes, and Samuel learns how to be attuned to God by saying, "Speak Lord, Your servant listens."

Take the following questions to think about:

• "Believing like a child," what does that look like for you?
• How do you manage to tune in with "Above"?
• Who helps you get closer to Jesus and stay attuned to Him?
• Who can help you do that?

Prayer

"Lord, I would like to be attuned to You. Help me to believe as a child and so be in connection with You, Jesus. And then, from that connection, in turn, help others to do the same. Amen."
