Secret Prayer

So, imagine for a moment I invited you to have peace in your heart, real peace. No matter what situation you face and are facing today, right now you can have a peace that will pass all understanding. It will carry you through the moment you are in or coming into. Or if I told you that despite the chaos around you or in your life right now, you can experience an inexpressible joy. Or if you need guidance, a light to the path ahead, it is 100% available to you, you are feeling lonely, heartbroken, you’ve got hurt in your home, marriage, you feel derailed or unsure of what is ahead and how to face it. Maybe you have experienced the trauma of religion, you’ve been in love with Jesus for years but feel lost in the church community, and don’t know where you fit.

Imagine I am inviting you to the answer to all this stuff, I have this available to you, and as you come to my house, I open the door and whisper into your ear how to find it. The two words I give you are:

Secret prayer. Closet prayer.

I have a feeling your heart has dropped, maybe an audible sigh ‘Ohh.’ You turn, disappointed and walk away.

“But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.” Matthew 6:6

Something has gone wrong, I think, for lots of Christians today. We have lost that place of secret prayer, that path into the very throne room of God, to boldly come in.

Devotional Prayer

This week, together, we will look into this each day and hopefully stir a fire in us again to seek Jesus and come into Dad's throne room in prayer.
