Distraction: The Enemy of DirectionExemplo

Distraction: The Enemy of Direction

Dia 4 de 7

Christians often falsely believe that every distraction they must battle will be a negative one.

Some destructive opportunity or habit that clearly pulls them away from their spiritual walk.

But this just isn’t the case. It’s important to know that positive things can often be just as detrimental to our purpose as negative ones.

Distraction #3 Our Service To God.

In Luke 10, we see Martha doing a good thing: preparing the dinner for Jesus and his disciples. We catch her in the middle of serving, fulfilling her duty. And yet, she is the one Jesus corrects.

It’s so easy for us to get distracted by the good things we’re doing for God that we forget to actually be with God.

When we confine ourselves to doing good things for God, we cut ourselves off from the great things He has for us. Serving is a beautiful thing, but it can also prove to be a distraction if we allow it to be.

Distractions have a few different sources. Many of them grow out of desires and false beliefs we hold inside ourselves. Others come from outside; from the environments we’re in, the voices we listen to, and even the people we love.

This one might be difficult to work through, but it’s vital to understand so that it doesn’t knock you off track.

Too much of anything can prove to be detrimental when it becomes either a distraction or we lose sight of why we originally took part in it. Even serving God at times can become a distraction if we begin to forget the importance of why we’re doing so! When we go through the motions, we effectively go on autopilot. We stay in the proper lane, but we don’t notice the surroundings as we pass them by.

But like Jesus explained to Martha, God wants us to not simply take part, but to grow our relationship with Him.

In order to ensure that our service to God hasn’t taken our attention away from our relationship with God, we must remember to put our walk with God before anything else.

The best service that we can provide to the Lord, and to ourselves, is to grow in our relationship with Him.

You can live a powerful life if you can become focused on God and concentrate on your purpose.
