Weird Ideas: Apostolic Church

Dia 1 de 5

Christians share something in common. All of us trace our faith lineage back to Jesus’s original apostles. What they taught and what they wrote (the New Testament) is responsible for shaping the foundational beliefs of every Christian. It’s through their work that we’ve come to know the truth about Jesus, are able to test claims about the way of Jesus, and have come to faith in Jesus. Regardless of what denomination or Christian tradition we follow today, we owe them a debt of gratitude.

Following the example of Jesus, the apostles were the original disciple-makers. They made disciples who went on to make disciples who made disciples who made disciples who made disciples… stretching on to us today. If you have come to faith in Jesus through the witness of another Christian, it’s safe to say that person came to faith through the witness of someone before them through a line of witnesses stretching back to the apostles.

If you are a Christian, you stand in that stream. And through us it flows into future disciples to come for generations. Until Jesus comes again.

The Nicene Creed says the Church is one, holy, catholic, and apostolic. This is what it means to say it’s apostolic. All Christians share in this apostolic faith and ministry.
