Lord's Prayer: Hallowed Be Thy NameExemplo

Lord's Prayer: Hallowed Be Thy Name

Dia 2 de 5

Praying that God would make holy his name implies that it is not.

Let’s make something clear. God is certainly holy. And his name, in its own right, is certainly holy. Nothing changes that. But that doesn’t mean people see it that way.

People have so many misconceptions about God. They don’t know him. They misunderstand him. They don’t quite grasp his character or personality. This leads people to assume and believe wrong things about him. This in turn leads to people hating him, despising him, rejecting him, disdaining him, distrusting him, or resenting him. So his name is not holy in their minds and on their lips.

God loves these people. He wants to be special and holy to them.

What is Jesus telling us to pray? Not that God would become holy, but that God would become holy in the hearts and minds of people. God wants the world to know just how special and holy he is. Father, make your name holy! May people come to know you for who you truly are! May they come to know just how good you are!

Consider this today…

In what ways do you see God treated as less than holy? How might people come to see his holiness? Pray that God would become holy to someone you know today.
