Sorry, I ChangedExemplo
Day 3 - Something About The Name Jesus [SBTN (FEAT. KIRK FRANKLIN)]
AARON: It was an honor to work with the legend Kirk Franklin on this song. With sampling the infamous song "Something About the Name Jesus" and getting Kirk on it, I wanted to bring an old school message and present in a new way. A way that could captivate the younger generation to see how powerful it really is to call on the name of Jesus. This world tells us to call on many other names, but the Bible says there is no greater name than the name of Jesus. Personally, I’ve seen what happens when I call on the name of Jesus in my life–hope, peace and joy are present and worry, fear and anger are minimal. I ran across a well-known artist, and they were talking about how they prayed to God and God didn’t answer–I can relate. I think we often treat God like a genie expecting Him to grant us our three wishes and then we can put him back in the bottle. This is simply not biblical–imma let EJ explain, but before he does let me say this: God doesn’t promise us we wouldn’t go through anything, but He does promise us that He would be with us when we go through everything.
EJ: Like Aaron just said, “God doesn’t promise us we wouldn’t go through anything, but He does promise us that He would be with us when we go through everything”. I want to take this a step further. Jesus actually promises us hardship in this life, which he states in John 16:33. Jesus is speaking with His disciples letting them know that they will have many trials and struggles but tells them to be courageous or as the NKJV (New King James Version) puts it, “be of good cheer” because Jesus has already overcame the world–the trials, sufferings and anything else we go through. As followers of Jesus, when we say the name of Jesus, we say it with a hope and expectation that He will show up in every area we ask Him to and even the areas we don’t ask him to. That is the God we serve, a God that goes beyond our wants and desires and gives us exactly what we need when we need it.
In John 14:13, Jesus says to ask ANYTHING in His name, and he will do it. However, he also states that this is so the Son (Jesus) can glorify the Father. What Jesus is stating is that when we ask, we must ask with a heart to bring Him glory not just make our situations better. While Jesus does care about your situation, he cares more about your heart posture in your struggles.
Reflection:
Listen to the song “SBTN (feat. Kirk Franklin)” and reflect on these questions:
1) What is one area in your life that maybe you have lost faith that Jesus will show up, and how can you challenge that narrative based upon today's lesson?
