Day 5: Exchange! (Put on the new)

Let’s imagine that you’ve just come home from school or work and you’re about to go out somewhere with your friends, but first you want to get changed. Taking off the old clothes is one half of the task, but putting on new ones is the other. There’s no point stopping halfway because you won’t be ready to do what you’re about to do if you don’t put anything back on! In the same way, changing our lives is not just about stopping old habits or ways of thinking but also about deliberately doing new things that the Holy Spirit empowers us to do. He wants to lead us into victory, so He will show us how to walk in that victory!

The Bible talks about us “putting on” or “clothing ourselves” in the new things God has for us. We’ve taken off the old stuff and now it’s time to daily put on the new. For example, maybe you have really struggled with fear and anxiety and you know they don’t come from your Father God, so you’ve taken it off in Jesus’ Name. Now it’s time to clothe yourself in His perfect love instead. Put it on and decide, “This is the new me! This is how I live now. I know that I am loved by God and that changes the way I think!”

Whatever you need from God today — strength, courage, help, grace or protection — imagine yourself putting all of that on like new clothes that you’re going to wear all day! This is a simple but powerful picture of how our lives can change to live in the victory He has for us. As the Holy Spirit prompts you to change things in your life, ask Him to show you the new ways to think, do and live instead!

The Sound of Victory (Living a Victorious Life Devotional)

The Bible says in Romans 5:17 that through Jesus we can “reign in life.” Jesus also said that He came to give us life in all of its fullness. Jesus died and rose again so that you could live in victory. He won so that we could win WITH Him… not defeated, not down, not lacking but free, strong and victorious - getting better every day!
