Calm in the Chaos - Finding Peace Amidst the Storms of LifeExemplo
Peace in the Inner Place
Let’s face it. We are emotional creatures, easily swayed and vulnerable to the schemes of the evil one. I vividly remember the lyrics to a song I learned as a child:
Satan’s like a roaring lion,
roaming to and fro,
seeking whom he may devour,
the Bible tells us so.
As a child, it was strange to think about a roaring lion roaming around to find someone to devour (namely me), but honestly, I was never afraid because I knew the rest of the song, and it was my favorite. I would sing to the top of my lungs:
Greater is He that is in me,
Greater is He that is in me,
Greater is He that is in me
than he that is in the world.
As I grew older, I realized these lyrics were from the Bible. I was memorizing God’s Word and hiding these truths in my heart. God’s Word never fades; even as the whirlwinds of life are ever-changing and knocking us from all sides, He is the cornerstone that will stand forever.
We have hope, even in the chaos, and we are invited to fully experience and enter into this hope and His presence, an anchor of the soul. Hebrews 6:19 describes this hope as entering “the Presence behind the veil.” We, lowly human sinners, are allowed to enter into His presence without any assistance from anyone else because Jesus has already entered and bridged the gap for us. C.S. Lewis shared, “God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing.” In order to experience calm in the chaos, we must accept that it truly only exists through Jesus.
Reflection
- In what areas of your life do you feel most vulnerable to the schemes of the evil one? Don’t be afraid. Write these down on a piece of paper, and in bold letters, write GREATER IS HE over the top.
- When was the last time you memorized scripture? Pray for direction, and by the end of the day, choose a verse to apply to your mind and hide in your heart.
- How does it make you feel knowing that Jesus loved you so much that He was willing to become the sacrifice so that you could have unity with God? Take time to thank Him for his sacrificial love and provision.
