Heart Check

Dia 1 de 4

When you hear the word “heart,” you might think of the organ that pumps blood through our body. But in the Bible, our hearts are more than just a part of our physical body. There’s a deeper meaning. The heart is portrayed as the core of our personality and character, where we form thoughts and make decisions. Our hearts are incredibly influential in who we are and how we act.

Because of how much of what we do is connected with our heart, we are told in Proverbs 4:23 to guard and protect it. It is important to take time to reflect on our hearts and make sure we have the right heart posture in anything we do. This looks like checking our motives and intentions and choosing to honor God. In Psalm 119:7, the psalmist commits to praising God with an upright heart. Worshiping and praising God is a matter of our heart and we must choose to glorify Him with a right heart posture in all things.

One of the ways we can honor God with our hearts is through our finances. Jesus connects our hearts and finances in Matthew 6:21. Jesus tells us that our heart follows where we place our treasures. Our treasures can look like how we spend our time and energy, but also our money. We must purposefully choose how we spend and use our money because that is where our heart will be. What we do with our money reflects the posture of our hearts.

God desires for us to give out of our heart, so what does it look like to honor God through our finances?
