Let’s be honest, waiting is hard. No one likes it. Standing in line? Nope. Waiting in traffic? Pass. Our generation wants everything quick, easy, efficient, and we like being in control. What else can you expect when we have immediate access to everything with one click?

I’d like to think I'm a patient person, but when it comes to my own plans, ideas, and goals for my life, I can be incredibly impatient. I’ve got dreams, what can I say?! What is it that you’re hoping for? Dreaming for? Praying for?

I can become frustrated when my timeline isn’t matching up to reality. And in those moments, I have to pause, take a breath, and remind myself of the times God has come through for me. Let’s do this together. Pause. Take a breath. Ask the Holy Spirit to remind you of God’s faithfulness and His perfect timing.

In my own life, I can recall moments of frustration when my plans weren’t working out in the ways I had hoped. Looking back, I can see that it all came together in perfect timing. I can recall when I was in college and graduation seemed so far away. I can recall the moments when I so badly wanted to go to Israel. Then, my college selected me along with other students to go on a scholarship trip! What an answer to prayer.

I can recall the dream in my heart that I wanted to sing so badly in my college worship group. Then in God’s timing, I finally auditioned and made the team. I can recall the times when my heart grieved a dream to write and make music for Jesus for years and years. And then one day, the Lord opened the door at the right time. I can recall all the moments when waiting made my heart ache, but it made the celebration that much bigger and drew me closer to the Lord.

Let’s not forget about Joseph’s story in the Bible. He had a dream and vision in his heart since he was a kid! It wasn’t easy for Joseph to become the person he was called to be. It took character building, faithfulness to God’s plan, and God’s perfect timing for his dreams to come true.

Wherever you are, whatever your circumstance is, I'm praying for you. I’m praying for renewed strength in the waiting, a faith that stirs in your heart, and doors to open for the building of this dream. Remember, God is always working for His good! His ways and thoughts are higher and His timing is always right on time.

Is there something that you are praying for? Believing in? Is there a dream in your heart that you are waiting for? What is a step you can take forward in moving toward this dream or goal? How can you take a step in surrendering this dream to God’s timing? Write down one of the verses in this devotional to reflect on.

Pray with me:

Father, I thank You for Your kindness and faithfulness in my life. I thank You for the plans You have for my life - plans to give me a hope and a future. I thank You for strengthening me and filling me up when I call upon Your name. I surrender my will to Your will because Your timing and plan is always better than what I can imagine! Fill me with hope, patience, and strength as I continue to walk in the calling You have for my life. In Jesus name, amen!
