Crucify Him
Jesus was rolling triumphantly into Jerusalem on a donkey. Crowds of Jewish people shouting “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!”
The same people later that week were the ones shouting, “CRUCIFY HIM!”
They did not want the Isaiah 53 Messiah. They wanted the Isaiah 9 Messiah. The one who would rule with power. The one who would put the government on His shoulders.
This song is a reflection on how we do the same thing! How we sing so comfortably "Hosanna, Hosanna, blessed is He Who comes in the name of the Lord." And we worship Him with our mouth, but in the same hour we curse our brother. We love Him until the job doesn't come through. We love Him until He takes our dad away, our friend away, our home away.
We, in our nature, like the people in Matthew 21, don’t want the Jesus of the cross. And the last thing we want to do is follow Him there! To “take up our own cross.”
The good news for ALL of our broken, prideful hearts is that HE LOVES US. He died for our hypocritical hearts. Let us repent once again and boldly draw near to the throne of grace today! Let us rest in His righteousness that He gave us through Christ Jesus our Lord.
