What The Bible Says: Holy-Spirit FillingExemplo
I HAVE THE SPIRIT, BUT DOES THE SPIRIT HAVE ME?
Every believer has the Holy Spirit, but the Holy Spirit does not “have” every believer.
Let there be no confusion about it: the fact of God’s indwelling Spirit in the believer cannot be refuted by the Word of God. “For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body” (1 Corinthians 12:13).
There is only one Holy Spirit and there is only one body—the body of Christ. You come into the body of Christ through faith in Jesus. “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31). It’s a promise. “But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12). You’re now part of the family, part of the body.
When you turn from your sin and embrace Jesus Christ by faith, you’re saved—just like that. It is the awesome, central reality in the universe—the saving power of Jesus Christ.
And we get all of the Holy Spirit at conversion; He takes up residence in the believer at that point. He is the “earnest of our inheritance” (Ephesians 1:14, KJV).
Do you remember when you bought your first home? You put down some “earnest” money when you committed to buy. And according to Ephesians 1:14, the Holy Spirit is God’s down-payment on everything He promises will be yours through all of eternity. So is the Holy Spirit filling you to overflowing?
Since you get all of the Holy Spirit at conversion, the question is not, “Do I have all of the Holy Spirit?” but “Does the Holy Spirit have all of me?”
Spend some time in prayer asking the Lord to reveal to you any areas of your heart or life that you’re withholding from Him.
