The Book Of John In SongSample
John 13
Imagine a formal banquet where the guest of honor also serves as the busboy. In the banquet of the kingdom of God, He turns out to be both Host and Guest of Honor, and #1 servant (for the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve…). God not only calls us to service, God equips us for it as well.
When people serve in their areas of giftedness, they experience the power of God at work in and through them. You cannot do this without being changed yourself.
1. Your faith gets built up as you experience God’s activity and realize his faithfulness.
2. You become grateful that you are allowed a part in God’s activity.
3. Your service brings you into deeper levels of community with those you serve.
4. Old patterns of pride or self-absorption get disrupted in the act of caring for others.
5. You know the joy of contributing to a cause greater than yourself. And, your gift becomes something you can offer back to God at his party. And he welcomes you to it. You, too, become an honored guest. You, too, become a servant.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, just as Jesus came to be a servant and to make his life a blessing to others, help me to make each encounter this day an opportunity to acknowledge, make way for, or serve the people you bring into my path. Amen.
