The Book Of John In Song

DAY 16 OF 21

John 16

I was recently in Israel with a group of friends from our church and everywhere we went we were greeted with "shalom."  I asked and was told it means peace to you but it is even deeper. It is a kind of blessing, a prayer that I want there to be no conflict in your life. I want there to be only well-being, goodness, and prosperity. Shalom! Could there be a more beautiful wish for every life?

This is the invitation of Jesus in John 16. In fact, throughout all of the Bible we quickly learn that God has a preferred state for everyone on planet earth. It is to find and live in shalom -- His peace. God's dream for us is that shalom would rule and reign at every level of our lives -- international, interracial, intergenerational, and internal personal peace. Yet in reality, it seems like peace is very scarce. The norm is anxiety, conflict, panic, fear and hatred. Jesus says that peace is available, but it will be constantly threatened by forces that want to steal away one’s sense of internal well-being. They are the peace busters that we must all confront.

Jesus says, that it is possible to learn to live in His peace by the power and presence of God. What are the peace busters that keep robbing you of shalom?

PRAYER
Lord, we want shalom to be the reality of our lives, even though there is trouble all around. Teach me, Lord, to live in Your peace.
