The Book Of John In SongSample
John 20
If you’re anything like me, you misplace things all the time. My phone, keys, kids, I could fill an entire page with stories of moments of panic. My phone is the worst. I’ll never forget I was running late for a meeting and my phone had vanished. Out of time and desperate, I asked my wife to call it. The ring was so loud! Turns out, it was in my hand. The very thing I’d been searching for was with me the whole time.
Here in John we find Mary Magdalene panicked and searching. She has come to mourn Jesus’ death and she can’t find his body. She calls out to a nearby gardener. The “gardener” replies by calling Mary by name. It is Jesus! He says “Mary it’s me, stop searching. I’m right here.” Everything changes as she sees Jesus. Out of excitement and relief Mary runs and tells her friends and anyone who will listen, “I have seen The Lord!”
Have you found yourself searching, for peace, security, hope, love? What if you could stop searching? What if the thing you are so desperately longing for, is infinitely closer than you could ever imagine?
PRAYER
God, as we search for you, we pray you would show us the truth, that you are closer than the breath we breathe. May we declare as Mary did “I have seen the Lord!”
