The Good News In 10 Days

DAY 6 OF 10

Day 6

One-Minute Devotion

One Thought, One Prayer, One Scripture

Jesus lived a sinless life thus satisfying all the requirements of God’s holy law. He suffered God’s judgment for our sins by dying a sacrificial death on the cross. When we put our faith in Jesus Christ and His finished work God forgives our sins and imputes to us the righteousness of Christ. This is called justification and it is the finished work of Christ. It is what He has done for us. “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,” (Romans 5:1 NIV).

Justification, however, is just one aspect of our salvation. There is also sanctification and glorification. Justification refers to our positional standing before God—“made perfect forever” (Hebrews 10:14). Sanctification, on the other hand, focuses on the continuing work of Christ in our daily life. It is the work Christ is doing in us—“those who are being made holy” (Hebrews 10:14). We are justified by faith and faith alone (Galatians 2:16) but we are sanctified by faith and obedience. Sanctification is a cooperative effort involving the Holy Spirit and our will. Only the Holy Spirit can break the power of canceled sin but He works through our obedience.

Lord Jesus, I surrender my will to the work of Your Holy Spirit. Sanctify me and make me holy. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
