MARVELING AT GOD
I imagine myself standing on the mount in front of Jesus. My beloved Jesus, hanging on the cross, helpless, humbled and full of pain. The sign flaunted over him: “The King of the Jews”. The people mocking him, spitting at him and laughing. I am overcome by various feelings: anger, sadness, anger again. I think: “Jesus, you are king, God’s son: show your power, your strength! You could easily come down from the cross and prove to everyone that you are God! Why don’t you do it?”.
It amazes me – how you can simply die on the cross despite all your power and all that you are capable of?
Humble and full of love you take all sins, failures, pain and illnesses upon yourself on the cross. Your love is so great that you renounce all your might so that I can live through your death. A life in freedom, love and fullness.
You are an amazing example. Out of love for us you humbly took on death on the cross, you did not want to prove to everybody who you really are. I am in awe of this courage. Because of your deed I can have a relationship with God and I get to experience how, as a result, my life is becoming incredibly fulfilling and meaningful. Your action serves in me my best interest.
ACTION STEP:
Prayer: Lord, I am in awe that despite your power and your position as God’s son you hung on the cross for me. I thank you for doing this from the bottom of my heart. I also want to live my life with such humility and renounce my position, power and strength, if it serves those around me. Please help me do this. Amen.

About this Plan

For many people Easter is merely a nice spring festival. However, the origin of Easter is powerful and relevant for all people. During this time, we celebrate that Jesus died and resurrected for us. By doing this, something incredible happened. In this reading plan we want to engage ourselves with the last 24 hours in the life of Jesus. Jesus’ death on the cross is not the end, but the beginning of something totally new. For each one of us. – “Because I live, you also will live.” John 14:19
