All Things New: A Christ For The Nations Worship DevotionalSample
There are moments in our lives when we decide to get closer to God--to step in His presence and receive the fullness of who He is. There are moments when all we want is to be with Him, when we feel our spirit hungry and thirsty for him. The King David used to describe these moments very well; “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.” (Psalm 42:1-2) We were made to immerse ourselves in God’s presence and dwell with Him.
In order to receive the fullness of what God wants us to receive and reach the places that God directs us toward, we must be willing to give up ourselves. We may feel insufficient or insecure at first—we’re not reliant on our own resources anymore, we no longer have all the answers. What we come to realize, however, is that all the strength and knowledge that we thought we had kept us from receiving God fully.
King David was known as “a man after the heart of God,” but the Bible also shows us that David wasn’t even close to being perfect. It makes me wonder: What made David a man after the heart of God?
David loved God’s presence, and he had to give up on himself many times to step into the presence of the One he loved. He understood that there was no better place to be than with God. When we decide to give up on everything for God’s sake, He always takes us towards the ultimate “better place”: the center of His heart.
