The Crucifixion of Jesus - Disciple Maker Series #26Sample
The people who mocked Jesus
Thoughts on the message
Here are all the representatives of mankind.
The religious leaders – they mocked Jesus.
The people walking by – they insulted Jesus.
The criminals – they mocked and insulted Jesus.
The Roman rulers – mocked Jesus with the sign over His head – “King of the Jews”.
The Roman soldiers (yesterday) – abused and humiliated Jesus.
No one saw Jesus for Who He was – the King of Creation. No one recognized Him for what He was doing – saving mankind from their sin. No one … except the Father.
When we choose to follow Jesus, do not be surprised if God asks/allows us to be misunderstood in exactly the same way by the world around us. We all want our world to accept Jesus and receive forgiveness – but they can respond just the same way. Jesus had to go through this so that the world could receive salvation. That may be necessary for our world as well.
Prayer
Father, today as we look at the broken world around us. It is easy to wish it were different, changed or even gone. Jesus chose to redeem this world. I ask for the same heart. I want to see my world as redeemable. I just do not know if I am willing to pay the price for that. I get hurt – and I pull back. I get abused, mistreated or misunderstood – and I get angry rather than seek to release blessing. I cannot do it right. I need the heart of Jesus. So I ask today – for me and my world – that I have the heart of Jesus. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

About this Plan
Matthew writes to God’s people and walks them on a journey that will take them from where they are to be Disciple Makers. This is 26 of 27 devotional plans walking us through the book of Matthew. In this portion, Jesus is condemned by Pilate and crucified. It is brutal, shameful and it exposes the hearts of mankind. It exposes us too.
