Together - Daily DevotionalSample

Hallowed be Your name
We conclude this month’s devotional by considering all of our daily devotionals and linking them to the Lord’s Prayer. Jesus disciples, being Jewish, would have known all about prayer yet there was something so different about the way Jesus prayed that they asked Him to instruct them.
Firstly we should note that Jesus told them to address God not as a theological concept – “God” but as a family member and relational companion. This is in stark contrast to the Pharisees and sinners who used the term “God”. If we meet our sovereign we use the title “Queen”; Prince Charles calls her “Mummy”.
Secondly Jesus spoke of “hallowing” God’s name. To hallow is an old English word meaning to treat as specially holy and worthy of reverence and respect. When we pray we can think of the attributes of God that His names describe to increase our faith and deepen our worship. He is not just ADONAI – Master but Our Father who is never described as bitter but as loving, forgiving, powerful, providing and saving.
By focussing on His names and attributes we can gaze upon the beauty of the Lord as we meditate, consider and inquire in His temple (Psalm 27:4)
