Our First Love
Reading: Rev.19:1-10
Key Verse: “Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready” v.7
Revelation is full of symbolism which at times can seem strange and confusing. In today’s reading we see Jesus the Lamb being married to His Bride the Church. The bride is beautiful and spotless because Jesus has made her righteous but also because she has “made herself ready”.
In Rev.2:1-7 we read of the church of Ephesus. They were hard working, attentive to doctrine and even persevered by enduring hardship. However, Jesus states that their sense of duty and hard work had become more important to them than their relationship with Him. Jesus says they had abandoned their passionate love for Him. The work of the Lord had taken priority over the Lord of the work!
We must always remember that is love, not work that must have the pre-eminence in our relationship with Jesus. The church is His Lover and Bride, not His employee! Our primary calling is to be together in loving fellowship with Him (1 Cor.1:9). The disciples were called to be first with Him and then sent out to preach (Mark 3:14). The order is important: a marriage based on duty before love is not ideal. Let us love Jesus first and then work with Him together with others.
Prayer: Lord Jesus I declare my passionate love for You. I pray Your church would be a loving Bride first and a fellow-worker second
