Each One of You

Reading: 1 Cor.12:18-28

Key Verse: “Now you are the body of Christ and each one of you is a part of it” v.27

We have been emphasising the corporate together nature of the church but in conclusion we need to focus on our personal role and responsibility. Paul stresses the importance of each person within the church fulfilling their individual function. Like a jigsaw or a body, if just one part is missing it affects the whole.

Perhaps we can illustrate the importance of individual contributions by referring to the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s walls.  This is often credited to Nehemiah but in fact he did little of the actual work – he simply inspired everyone to do their part. In Nehemiah chapter 3 we read time after time of individuals making repairs to the walls in front of their house or their district or region. The sum of their individual efforts was that the whole wall was rebuilt to the glory of God.

You have not been called to fulfil someone else’s role but your own. You are the one God will use to rebuild faith in your neighbours, or at your school gates, or in your gym, or your workplace or amongst your friends and family. No one else has your unique position in life or in the body of Christ. You are the One!

Prayer: Lord thank you that I am a vitally important member of Your church. Help me to fulfil my role with the power and boldness of your Holy Spirit
