Together - Daily Devotional

DAY 118 OF 121

Positive Meetings Together

Reading: Hebrews 10:19-25

Key Verse: “Discover creative ways to encourage others and to motivate them towards acts of compassion, doing beautiful works as expressions of love. ” v.24 (Passion Translation)

In contrast to yesterday’s devotional let’s consider the effects of positive meetings. Throughout the NT we see many references to meetings where people experienced the presence of God.  As they worshipped God together, their lives were transformed from darkness to light, they were healed, came to know Jesus, were filled with the Holy Spirit, became full of joy and spoke boldly of Jesus to others. They were motivated to reach out to the poor with their words, wealth, works and wonders.  Hebrews specifically encourages believers to continue assembling together.  We are particularly challenged to be inventive in thinking how we may inspire others to deepen and express their faith.

Hebrews says, “This is not the time to pull away and neglect meeting together because we need each other! In fact, we should come together more frequently, eager to encourage and urge each other onward” The presence of God can be so real that Paul writes, “if an unbeliever enters your meeting ... he will be mystified and fall face down in worship and say, ‘God is truly among you’” (1 Cor.14:24-25). As we worship together we pray the glory of God will fill the church today as it once filled the ancient Temple.

Prayer: Lord may You inspire me to encourage others and fill the church with Your presence as we meet together
