Who killed Jesus?
Over the centuries there has been much debate as to who was responsible for the death of Jesus, the Holy Son of God. At one time, Jews were despised as “Christ Killers” because they howled for His death but it was the Gentiles who were actually responsible for His crucifixion under Roman law. We could therefore say that both the religious leaders and the political authorities were responsible even though Pilate famously “washed his hands” of the whole affair.
God the Father has also been blamed for Jesus death. After all it was the Father who gave Him as a sacrifice so that we consider “him stricken by God” and it was the Father who “laid on him the iniquity of us all” (Isa.53:4-6).
Yet it was the crowd who cried out for his crucifixion and the crowd who took responsibility when they shouted, “Let his blood be on us”. A crowd is simply a gathering of individuals so each individual was responsible for Jesus death. Yet His crucifixion was not simply an historical moment in time but a moment for all time. His sacrifice was not just for their sin but my sin. Who killed Jesus? I did!
Prayer: Lord I thank you that You died for MY sin
