Balanced on Purpose

DAY 2 OF 10

In our seven cows story in Genesis 41, we are introduced to a strange story of thin and ugly cows that were eating the fat and healthy cows. Although this metaphor provides such a bizarre scenario, it provides a very crucial life lesson. While cows don’t eat cows in real life, God had to use this story to reveal a very deep truth.

Life is like the story of these seven cows. The thin cows represent those aspects of our lives that are neglected, while the fat cows represent those areas of our lives that we nurture. Just like the sad account of the fat cows being eaten up by the thin ones, those aspects or areas of our lives that we neglect end up eating those that we nurture.

The scripture in 1 Corinthians 12:12, tells that although a body is made up of many parts, it is actually one entity. What happens to one part of the body, happens to the whole. If a negative thing affects one part of the body, the whole body gets affected. If a positive thing happens to one part, the whole benefits.

Our lives are like that. They are an integrated system. They are made up of many aspects and all these aspects make up one whole. When we concentrate on a few aspects, the ones we neglect will eat those that we concentrate on.

The many aspects of our lives can be grouped into seven main areas:

1. Our Spirituality

2. Our Health

3. Our Finances

4. Our Career

5. Our Family

6. Our Relationship

7. Our Hobbies

Real success is having success in all the seven. Many people concentrate on a few at the expense of the others but they end up paying a hefty price because those areas that are neglected start to interfere with those that are nurtured

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to know how to intentionally find time to nurture every one of the seven areas of my life. Forgive me for those areas of my life that I have neglected and grant me the courage to readjust. Amen
