Challenge Accepted: SacrificeSample

Greed can be one of the biggest hindrances to us fully following Jesus. Especially living in western society, the allure of bigger, better, newer, more comfortable, etc. can be very hard to ignore. Jesus encountered a man who was extremely wealthy, a devout and well-respected man in his community, and yet still found something missing from his life. Jesus called him to sacrifice – to separate himself from the baggage that was actually holding him back – and yet he refused. 

It can be easy to justify greed – to claim we are merely trying to make wise financial decisions, or to provide for others. But Jesus reminds us in another teaching that perhaps these justifications are simply masking our desire for control. To truly live that abundant life, Jesus reminds us that giving up that control leads to true freedom. Jesus promises to meet all of our needs, and trusting Him in that on a daily basis will lead to the rich and satisfying walk with Him we’ve been longing for. 

As you read today, ask yourself these two questions:

• What verse stood out to me the most?
• What can I do with that in my life today?
