Lessons From 2 Chronicles: Devotions From Time Of Grace

DAY 4 OF 8

What goes before a fall?

Things had been going so well. King Uzziah had been enjoying the Lord’s favor, and military security and economic prosperity followed. But Satan never quits. He was ready with Plan B. “After Uzziah became powerful, his pride led to his downfall. He was unfaithful to the Lord his God, and entered the temple of the Lord to burn incense on the altar of incense. Azariah the priest with eighty other courageous priests of the Lord followed him in. They confronted King Uzziah and said, ‘It is not right for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the Lord. That is for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, who have been consecrated to burn incense. Leave the sanctuary, for you have been unfaithful; and you will not be honored by the Lord God’” (2 Chronicles 26:16-18).

Are you proud? Might you be proud of your humility? Would the people around you say that pride is a problem for you? Are you stubborn? Do you listen well? Can you admit it when you’re wrong? Do you allow people strong enough to rebuke you to be around you?

Realize that Satan would like to twist your thoughts into knots. Even when you’ve won some temptation battles, he is already plotting his counterattack. Stay vigilant. Stay in the Word, so that you can hear the clear voice of the Master above the din of your life’s battles.

You would do well to keep a mentor around who will tell you when you’re getting too full of yourself.
