Lessons From 2 Chronicles: Devotions From Time Of GraceSample
God’s secret agents are everywhere
God has an army of human servants who do his will and do their part to carry out his agenda. We usually assume that these are the active church members who study the Word and engage in public worship, right? In other words, church people.
But we don’t know the half of what God has going on. He has connections with people beyond our ability to track and identify. Scripture has quite a few stories of God’s secret agents in very unpredictable places. For instance—a pharaoh of Egypt. Seriously! Did you know that a pharaoh named Necho was receiving direct instructions from God himself? Whaaat?
This led to the (seemingly) absurd scenario where an Egyptian needed to lecture an Israelite king who should have known better about not getting in the way of God’s plans: “Necho sent messengers to him (i.e., King Josiah), saying, ‘What quarrel is there, king of Judah, between you and me? It is not you I am attacking at this time, but the house with which I am at war. God has told me to hurry; so stop opposing God, who is with me, or he will destroy you’” (2 Chronicles 35:21). Somehow this Egyptian had been drafted into God’s plans, had believed in the truth of his instructions, and had obediently carried them out.
Doesn’t that give you a sense of wonder at what God may be up to right under your nose? His secret agents are everywhere!
