I LIFT MY EYES
Think of your most favorite natural place you’ve ever been. Maybe it was a snowy mountain peak with crisp, white powder caked to the trees and a crunch under your feet; a relaxing tropical beach with crystal blue water and soft breezes over pristine sands; or perhaps safe in the deep woods, crickets chirping, under a thick blanket of bright stars. We know God created the heavens and the earth, but why do you think He chose to make it so beautiful? All you have to do is catch an average sunrise or sunset to get the feeling that it was created for us to enjoy. The universe might be infinite, but earth was deliberate, and its endless beauty is observable so it could be the measure of how much He thinks of us. God created this incredible planet—our wet jungles and dry deserts, our atmosphere, our moon, our gravitational pull, our tectonic plates, and everything in between, and still it wasn’t called “very good” until He added man and woman in His image. All this physical beauty is just a tiny sliver of how wonderful He is, but it cost Him nothing to create. For us to spend eternity in the incomprehensibly more beautiful heaven with Him, He left His throne to be born in a barn and died a brutal death He didn’t deserve. That trade cost Him everything.
We can lift our eyes to the mountains, but don’t forget that our help doesn’t come from the mountains, it comes from the guardian of our lives, the maker of heaven and earth. Enjoy the creation that He gifted to us and worship the One who created it.
About this Plan
This study plan is a complement to the Central Live album titled Greater , and covers some of the scriptural truths that inspired us when writing it. For the next two weeks, let’s explore and savor the personality of God, worship Him through song, and live with fresh gratefulness for our rescue. Greater comes from John 3:30, which is an aim Central Live strives to achieve every day: “He must become greater and I must become less.”
