Wisdom: The Principle ThingSample
The Lord Gives Wisdom
Proverbs 2 gives us insight into what is at the heart of wisdom. Spoiler alert: it's not age.
King Solomon shares these words with his young son. He tells him to receive his words, treasure his (and God's) commandments, listen closely, and incline his heart to understanding. He urges him to call out to God for wisdom and to seek it like the treasure it is. Then, he will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.
The wise person is one who recognizes the treasure of knowing the Lord and His ways and seeks to know Him more diligently than searching for earthly treasure. They make it their goal to deeply know and love the One who is the wisdom Giver. He is their heart's greatest desire. This is the person to whom God grants wisdom—no matter their age.
How beautiful is the truth that we, as God's children, can humbly approach Him, asking for insight, and He delights to answer?! What a precious gift we, as believers, should keep before their eyes.
Does He promise to give us omniscience or understanding regarding every life circumstance? Certainly not. But we can be sure that He gives us the wisdom we need to do the work He's called us to, fight the sins we're prone to, and grow in our love for the Lord (2 Peter 1:3).
Wisdom is a safeguard to the believer. Praise God that no matter our age, life stage, or background, we can seek it like silver, with a humble heart and find all we need to know about the gracious God who saved us and how to live a life that honors Him.
