Prayer For Life

DAY 1 OF 7

DAY ONE: Are You Really Living, Or Just Surviving?

When I look around at our society, I can say without hesitation that there are far more people who are barely living than who believe that “it’s great to be alive.” It’s why I wrote my book It’s Time to Pray—to help believer s reconnect with the power of God.

Are you living the abundant life that Christ promised, or do you merely exist? I’ve experienced the barely living side of life…

When I was younger, my official job was bartender. My equally official, but more undercover, job was bouncer. My intimate familiarity with alcohol and my willingness to fight at the drop of a hat made me ideally suited for the responsibilities.

I had actually applied to be a residence fellow. The job entailed orienting new residents in the dorm, answering questions, showing them where things were, and adjudicating if there were problems between residents. I went to the orientation session and didn’t speak up or participate. I still struggled with fear and very afraid that someone would single me out.

At the end of the orientation, the leader came up to me and told me that I wasn’t “leadership material.”

Looking back at the rejection, I realized that if we are obsessed with what other people think of us, we will never become what God wants us to be.

It’s sad to say, but many Christians live their lives in the wilderness because they concluded that God could not do what He said He could do.
