Sacred Holidays: A Devotional Leading Up To Halloween Sample

Sacred Holidays: A Devotional Leading Up To Halloween

DAY 3 OF 5

 DAY THREE:

Have you ever played the game Red Light Green Light? When someone yells “green light,” you run as fast as you can. When they yell “red light,” you have to freeze. (And if you play in our family, we do yellow light too, and you have to do your best slow motion move.) When God tell us to “Go,” He is giving us the green light to go at full force. However, some of us are too scared to play this game, so we act like we’ve heard a red light, or we go in slow motion.

This isn’t what God intended. Fear is a horrible master, and it’s time for us to fight back!

Fear keeps us inside. Fear keeps us from talking to those who don’t believe in Jesus. Fear keeps us from saying hello to our neighbor or talking to people when we are out and about. We hide behind our phones, making spiritual posts on social media, assuming that means we’ve shared the gospel in a modern way. But we’ve missed out on getting involved in true discipleship.

Today we are going to fight our fear and give it no more power! How does that sound?

We are about to read a lot of verses about what the Bible says about fear. Sometimes we can be tempted to skip over reading the Word when there is a lot to read. Don’t sell yourself short. Give these verses time and give yourself space to process what they are teaching you about fear.

Read Isaiah 41:10 and note what it teaches you about fear.

Read Psalm 56:3 and note what it teaches you about fear.

Read 2 Timothy 1:7 and note what it teaches you about fear.

Read 1 John 4:18 and note what it teaches you about fear.

Read Psalm 23:4 and note what it teaches you about fear.

Read Joshua 1:9 and note what it teaches you about fear.

Read Psalm 27:1 and note what it teaches you about fear.

Read Mark 6:50 and note what it teaches you about fear.

Read Deuteronomy 31:6 and note what it teaches you about fear.

Read Isaiah 41:13-14 and note what it teaches you about fear.

While we could go on and on reading about fear, let’s stop to go before God in order to lay it down.

Wrap up today by confessing to God ways you’ve feared going into the world. You can be honest with your Father. Your confessions are safe with Him.
