Relationships
- After we’ve placed our faith in Jesus Christ, we are described in Scripture as new creations who are being transformed more and more into the image of Christ through the work of the Holy Spirit. We have the opportunity to cast off old hurts, habits, and hangups in favor of putting on our new identity as children of God. Through the Apostle Paul, God calls His adopted children to adopt new characteristics of love, peace, compassion, and more in order to better reflect the life of our Savior.
- As our individual lives are transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit, our communities experience the same transformation. With Christ as our model, our relationships can be defined by love and forgiveness that bonds us together in peace and unity. Our communities can be rooted in the Word of God, which allows believers to grow closer to the Lord as we grow closer to one another. Our relationships can be Different enough to Direct the world to the peace of Christ that dwells in our hearts and bonds us together.
- Prepare to read the following verses by praying & asking God to focus your attention and affections on Him.
Reflection:
- Do you see these characteristics reflected in all your relationships? Why or why not?
- Which characteristic from the passage most defines you & which one least defines you?
- How do these characteristics change between your different relationships with family, friends, strangers, authority figures, etc.?
- When & where do you lack an attitude of thankfulness?
