The Return

DAY 3 OF 7

Trying to Touch God

Your heart is the most important thing to God. And your worship is a reflection of your heart. I discovered this when I was sixteen, picked up my guitar, and hoped it would be come my very own portal to heaven.

This new creature I’ve become is a soul that’s never full. I open God’s love letter—His Word. And I read. It’s daily bread to my heart. I feel His breath wrapped up in the letters and His heartbeat just beyond my words. I see Him searching me as I take in the message. He has a knowing joy in his eyes—an excitement for me to understand His ways.

The peace, wisdom, and echo of it spreads through me like it has entered my bloodstream. All of it, like a gas stove being turned on, pushing out iridescent swirling shimmers into the air. Clicking, clicking, clicking. And here comes the spark: Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness! (Matt. 25:21) My heart is set ablaze by this Scripture.

I flip to the back of my Bible and look up the word faithful. This is where you can start your journey of learning more about loving God back. We can never repay God. But as we catch glimpses of His great love for us, we can’t help but want to love Him back.

Jesus said, “If you have seen the Son you have seen the Father. I and my Father are one and the same” (see John 14:9). Jesus said, “If you love me, you will obey my commands” (John 14:15). What did He command? That we “love one another” as He loved us.

He said the greatest commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. And the second, He said, is like it: love your neighbor as yourself (see Matt. 22:37–39). God’s love and forgiveness are free gifts. I can’t earn or pay for them. But I can bring to Him all my offerings and sacrifices of love.

How do you steward this life you’ve been given and love God back? What are the opportunities in front of you to love God with?

About this Plan

The Return

We all need a quiet, undisturbed place where we speak freely to God without restraint or fear of judgment. A place that allows us to sit and listen to His response. In such moments, reading God’s Word becomes a conversation with the One who loves us perfectly and completely. Answers are shaped by His breath—as all Scripture is God-breathed. Come and offer your worship to the One whose mercy and ceaseless grace shape your existence.
