The River and Tree of Life  

Thoughts on the Passage

This is the last picture in this wing of our Revelation art gallery. It is a picture that shows the River of Life and the Tree of Life. The river flows from God’s throne – the source of eternal life. 

Several thoughts.

First, the healing of the nations. It is not just the healing of individuals, but for nations. Many ethnic peoples have been enslaved, brutalized, mistreated, killed, or forced to flee as refugees for their own safety. This abuse from the hands of other nations leaves scars and wounds that run deep and often have festered for generations. God wants to see healing and restoration between all these people groups. The Hutus and Tutsis of Rwanda, the Spaniards and the Incas and other central American Indian groups, the Jewish people and the Russians and Germans, the Armenians and the Turks, and many, many more. Each relationship needs healing and heaven will see that happen. 

Second, there will be nothing that is accursed. That again reminds us that sin will have no place in this heaven. People cannot bring anything into heaven that ties them to a broken past, a sinful lifestyle, a bondage, or anything else connected to this earth and its brokenness. God will not allow it in. Instead heaven will be a place filled with the light and love of God. That will be eternity.

Third, God wants the people who read this letter to follow the truths of this letter. In other words, this revelation has power to bless the people of God in every generation. It is not just a letter for the future, it touches the people of God today and releases blessing upon us. God intended this for every generation. 

Go through this art gallery often. It has multiple blessings for you as you walk through it. 

Prayer

Father, I long for the day of reconciliation. I long for a day when the sinful failures of people can be healed, and the destructive work of nations will see healing and restoration. What a day of blessing that will be! Never again will the nations oppress other peoples, never again will greed and oppression rule. Never again…. So I long to see the river flow, and tree release its blessing on all of God’s people. Father, forgive me for ignoring this book – and missing the blessing that comes to me from reading and learning from it. You have so many blessings for us and we stopped short of receiving it in this revelation. We go to movies often or read special books often because we get blessed multiple times, but we have avoided this book and missed the multiple blessings present. So forgive us, give us greater insight every time we read this, give us strength every day we look at it, and above all, make it a powerful Revelation of Jesus to us – just as You intended when You wrote it. In Jesus Name, Amen.
