The Daily Dose: 30 Days to a Healthy Soul

DAY 14 OF 30

Don’t Be Afraid

Psalms 56:4 "In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?"

Some days it feels like everyone is against me—whether I’m driving my car or at the store, it’s like one big conspiracy trying to take me down. It’s me against the mortals. Have you ever felt this way?

I like the NLT version of Psalm 56:4 where David says, “I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals to do me?” The words mere mortals put things in perspective, don't they? When we’re up against mere mortals, all we need to do is to refocus. Mere mortals can’t touch us. They can’t take us down. They can’t even make us stumble. God is in control of our lives. He’s the One who’s shaping us into His likeness, even through the trials that come from mere mortals.

The moment you get your perspective off of the mere mortals in your life and fix your attention on the One who is in charge of your life, you will find freedom—even freedom enough to love those mere mortals.

No one can touch you, not even mere mortals. God’s got your future and your days in His hands. Now praise Him for His promises and get on with your day.

Question:

Who are you most afraid of and why? Pray through your fears reminding yourself that God is your safety no matter who you’re up against.
