The Potter’s Hand
Jeremiah 18:3-4 "So I went down to the potter's house, and there he was working at his wheel. And the vessel he was making of clay was spoiled in the potter's hand, and he reworked it into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to do."
Have you ever tried to step into the way of an artist? If you know any artists, then you know that when it comes to the work they’re doing, you better stay out of their way until they’re done. And if you’re watching from afar, you never know what they’re working on until they’re done. What looks like rubbish to you right now is often a masterpiece in the hands of the artist who won’t stop until the masterpiece is done.
In Jeremiah 18, God compares Himself to a potter working on a piece of clay. He’s molding it to perfection. When He notices that it’s spoiled, He reworks it until He’s fully satisfied with it.
The analogy is obvious. You and I are the clay, and God is the potter. He’s got a perfect vision of the person He’s shaping us to be and won’t stop until He’s completely satisfied with who we’re becoming.
This potter is trustworthy. He knows what he’s doing. So get out of the way and let Him do what He does best.
