Why Did God Bless Some People More Than Others?Sample

Why Did God Bless Some People More Than Others?

DAY 1 OF 5

 What Does Poverty Look Like?

“When I returned from my first missions trip, I had a big question that soon became all-consuming. Why was I born into a middle class family while so many people were born into poverty? I struggled with it for weeks until God gave me peace in my own identity.” -Mae

It’s a question that many people ponder. Why did God put me here—in this time and place? Over the next 5 days, we’ll consider how God views poverty and how we fit into His plan.

Consider this: roughly 1.37 billion people live on less than $1.25 per day and 2.56 billion live on less than $2 a day. Those stats are staggering! Most of us spend more than $2 on our breakfast alone. So how do we rectify why God seems to bless some with material wealth while others seem to suffer in dire circumstances?

It’s important to remember that poverty was not God’s design. The earth was created perfect, but sin brought poverty, disease, and evil.

The poverty problem is real, but the Bible teaches that God’s love is just as real. Our verses today assure us that God is a refuge for the oppressed. He is a strong tower in times of trouble. How interesting that these verses don’t say that God provides the people with refuge or gives them shade. Instead, God is the refuge. He is the shade from the scorching heat. He is the shelter from the rain. He is their ultimate protection. God is their defense.

God doesn’t turn a blind eye to those in need. Instead, He knows every detail. He sees every hurt, every tear, and every need.

Ask Yourself: Do I turn a blind eye to poverty? Is it easier not to notice? How do I view poverty differently than God does?

Suggested Prayer: Father God, Your Word says that you are a refuge for the oppressed and a stronghold for those who are in trouble. I confess that sometimes I look away. It is hard for me to see the hurting people. Open my heart to your plan. Involve me in your solution.
