UnpluggedSample

If you’ve launched your digital fast today, expect it to be challenging! Even though you may have determined from what you’re fasting and for how long, don’t be surprised if you find a particularly compelling reason to stay on your phone during that time. Expect to feel pressure to connect using an app that you’re trying to take a break from. Day one of any fast is usually the most difficult.
In Luke 4, there’s an account of Jesus fasting. In verse 2 it says, “Jesus ate nothing all that time and became very hungry.” Because of course he did! When we abstain from something it’s only natural that our appetite for that thing will grow. At first, we miss it deeply and it occupies a lot of our thought time, but the longer we persist the easier it becomes to keep the object of our fasting to the side, as we’ve committed. So, no matter how badly you want to check your notifications today during your fasting time, keep yourself “shut down”. Remember the reasons you're fasting in the first place (think back to Day 3) and pray for God to help when you’re tempted to quit!

About this Plan

Life is moving at an incredibly fast pace. It can be hard, in the midst of all the things we have going on, to find time to connect with God in meaningful ways. “Unplugged” will challenge you to evaluate your habits with technology and busyness, and encourage you to pursue moments of solitude – times to connect between you and Jesus.
