For many of the people we meet on our various frontlines, life is not easy. Behind the smiling masks there are relationship breakdowns, addictions, bereavement, debt, worry, and fear. The workplace is rarely a safe place to let anyone see behind the mask. Especially if that painful situation is then relayed, with embellishments, down the office grapevine. Yet the workplace and other frontlines are our places of ministry...where we are brought into contact with a hurting, sinful world and asked to bind wounds and wash feet. It takes time, however, to love our neighbours and life can be task-focused and hectic. Giving people time and a confidential ear can be costly. It is also loving.
