Passion 2019 Reading Plan

DAY 6 OF 30

“Whatever you run to, you trust.”

-Chad Veach, Passion 2019

We’ve all been hurt. We’ve all been told things that made us feel disrespected, patronized, or alienated. It’s not uncommon for the enemy to use other people (intentionally or unknowingly) to wound us. We’ve all experienced those feelings of being less-than. But this is only half of the enemy’s tactic to harm us. The other half is to offer a false sense of recovery and healing. He is ultimately after our trust. When we’re upset, the enemy wants us to run to something shallow in order to feel better: to food, to a substance, to an addiction, a social media obsession, to pornography, to codependency, to anything that promises wholeness but perpetuates emptiness.

Our real fulfillment is only in Jesus. The Psalmist wrote, “Those who know Your name trust in You; for You, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek You.” (Psalm 9:10). When you’re disappointed, are you running to Him? We can’t control everything that happens to us, but we can decide whom to turn to when we’re weak and unhappy. Before sorrow comes our way, we can predetermine that we will abide in Jesus' strength, Jesus' approval, and Jesus' Word as the final word. You can trust Him when He says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28).
