When was the last time you gave in to instant gratification? Maybe it was when you decided to drink that second soda or skip studying to watch something on Netflix. While giving in to those temptations from time to time may be okay, it often keeps us from something else in the long run. And this is really what the author of Hebrews is reminding us.
The truth is, following God often requires us to go against what we immediately might want to do. It may require us to hold our tongues when we’d rather speak or choose kindness even though we want to be rude. But if we have patient endurance to follow God and His will, He promises that it will be worth it.
The next time you feel like giving in to instant gratification and know you shouldn’t pause, and ask God to give you the perseverance to push through. You’ll be glad you did.

About this Plan
It’s easy to see faith as just a list of dos and don’ts we have to keep in order to make God happy. But what if this view of faith is missing the mark? We’ll discover that Jesus didn’t come to keep us captive to a list of rules. In fact, just the opposite is true! Because of Jesus, we get to live as free people.
