How Passionate Are You For Jesus?

DAY 3 OF 3

THE PINNACLE OF PASSION

Does the Lord expect us to love His with passion and zeal? Definitely! Jesus pointed out that the summary of all God’s Commands was to “love God with all your passion” (Matt. 22:37). Remember Jesus’ question to Peter, his disciple which went like this: “Do you truly love me more than these?” (John 21:15). The phrase, “more than these” which Jesus used here  implies that he expects our love for Him to be so passionate and zealous it outstrips our love for other things. Jesus expects our love for him to be so intense that our love for immediate family may seem like “hatred” – hyperbolically speaking – when compared to the insane love we have for him (Luke 14:26). Our love for Jesus must be so intense as the love the Father had for his Son. I understand that when read John 17:26, part of Jesus’ high priestly prayer: Jesus prayed, “O righteous Father…..I have revealed you to them and will keep revealing you. I will do this so that your love for me may be in them and I in them”. The God we worship is zealous. With zeal, He speaks (Ezek. 5:13).  He is zealous for His Holy Name (Ezek. 39:25). When we genuinely hate sin hard like Phinehas did and demonstrate that we really do, God sees that as our zeal for him (Numbers 25:11-13). In the New Covenant the demonstration of sin-hatred may mean fleeing youthful lusts (2 Tim. 2:22) rather than sending a spearing into the bodies of a sinfully copulating couple like the appreciated-even-by-Yahweh-for-his-zeal Phinehas!

Have we fallen out of love with the Lord Jesus and fallen in love with the world like Demas, the ministry team member of Apostle Paul (2 Tim. 4:10)? Let us return to him now with and love him with an “undying love” (Eph. 6:24).

The Microsoft Company once had this advertisement punch-line: “Your potential, our passion!” Jesus, instead would say, “That you would be passionate for me is my passion!”
